HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama state offices and courts are closed today in observance of Jefferson Davis’ birthday, a state holiday recognizing the former president of the Confederate States. Jefferson Davis was born on June 3, 1808, in Kentucky and later served as a U.S. Senator, Secretary of War, and President of the Confederacy during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865.
