The owners of Mary's Pit BBQ say the building, which was built back in 1958, is a total loss.

Many Senior Alabamians have expressed a strong desire to show their support for Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries programs.

• Continue to show your support by making this voluntary, one-time contribution and you will receive an embossed, credit-card style license signifying your personal contribution.

• Your contribution goes to the game and fish lifetime trust fund and only the interest will be utilized each year for operation of the program.

• Residents 65 and over are exempt from purchasing: Hunting, Freshwater Fishing, Saltwater Fishing, Wildlife Management Area (WMA), and State Duck Stamp.

• Residents 65 and over are still required to purchase: baiting privilege, nighttime feral swine & coyote hunting, federal duck stamp, saltwater angler registry, saltwater reef fish endorsement and spearfishing licenses – these are not included in this lifetime license

Alabama opens program that lets parents tap money for private school funding

Starting Thursday, eligible Alabama families can apply for a new state program that provides state funds to help pay for private school tuition, home school costs and other education expenses next school year. ...The CHOOSE Act, or Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education Act of 2024, will provide eligible families with as much as $7,000 in state money through education savings accounts for private school tuition or costs at a participating school. Parents could also get up to $2,000 for home school expenses. Families can find more information about the program at chooseact.alabama.gov.
